Dayanand Gawade, police inspector of Raigad native crime department, stated, “The detained truck driver has been identified as Umesh Yadav, but hasn’t been arrested yet. An FIR has not been registered since we are yet to ascertain how the accident occurred and who was at fault. Whether the truck driver was at fault or Mete’s driver Eknath Kadam will be concluded only after considering the accident spot inspection report of Mumbai forensic science laboratory and the post-mortem report of Panvel sub-district hospital. Prima facie, a motor vehicle accident case has been registered at Rasayani police station.”
Gawade additional stated, “The truck’s registration number led us to its owner in Palghar who provided us the driver’s name and mobile number. We contacted Yadav and he answered the call. When asked if his tempo and an SUV had crashed on the Mumbai-Pune expressway near Bhatan tunnel, he replied in the affirmative, but claimed that the SUV had crashed into his truck from behind and he had halted to check if his truck was damagead and then he travelled ahead. Yadav’s mobile tower location was traced to Vapi. We reached Vapi and detained him.”
