PUNE: Bedsheets made by the inmates of Yerawada Central Jail shall be utilized in mail and specific trains of the Central Railway.
Rail officers stated that the choice was to encourage small industries and the bedsheets shall be accessible for passengers in air-conditioned compartments of those trains.
“From August 15, 89 of these bedsheets will be available for passengers of Pune-Ahmedabad Duranto Express. It is being done on an experimental basis and after feedback from the passengers, the bedsheets will be made available on more such trains. An agreement has been signed between the Central Railway and the administration of the Yerawada jail,” Manoj Jhawar, public relations officer with the Pune rail division, stated.
He stated Railways officers will coordinate with the jail authorities for the well timed provide of the bedsheets. Nearly all mail and specific trains originating from Pune now have the availability of mattress rolls for passengers. “Some trains that have not been covered will soon get supply of bed rolls,” the official added.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, the Railways resumed blanket and linen providers for passengers on board air-conditioned coaches throughout a long-distance journey.
The Railways supplied disposable bedroll kits to travellers on a need-basis requirement. For longer journeys, passengers had been instructed to carry their very own blankets.
