CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir cops collectively bag 62% police gallantry medals | India Information – Occasions of India

NEW DELHI: The CRPF and J&Okay Police have collectively bagged over 62% of the police gallantry medals awarded this Independence Day, with 204 (58%) of the whole 347 medals awarded on this class honouring personnel for counter-terror successes in J&Okay, 80 for motion towards Left-wing extremists and 14 for crushing insurgency within the northeast.

The CRPF leads the tally with a complete 171 medals, adopted by J&Okay police with 125, Maharashtra Police with 84, UP police with 80 and BSF with 70.
Delhi Police acquired a complete of 18 police medals, together with one PMG, two PPM and 16 PM. No President’s police medals for gallantry (PPMG) — the best rated police medal for acts of bravery — was awarded this 12 months both to any police or paramilitary personnel.

When it comes to gallantry awards, CRPF and J&Okay police have been nearly neck-and-neck with a haul of 109 and 108 medals, respectively. Whereas 83 CRPF personnel have been honoured for gallant acts in J&Okay, 26 gallantry medals have been in respect of counter-Naxal motion. Maharashtra police have been a distant third with 42 of its personnel honoured for gallantry, adopted by the BSF with 19 PMGs and Chhattisgarh police with 15.
As many as 30 police gallantry medals have been awarded posthumously. These embrace 11 personnel from BSF; six from Jharkhand Police; 4 from CRPF; three every from Maharashtra Police and Chhattisgarh Police; and one every from Delhi Police, Assam Rifles and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Among the many central paramilitary forces, CRPF personnel received the best tally of 171 police medals in all classes, adopted by BSF with 70 medals, Intelligence Bureau with 34 medals, CBI with 30, CISF with 24, ITBP with 20, Railway Safety Pressure (RPF) with 16 medals and SSB with six medals.
The NSG received 4 police medals, whereas NIA, NDRF and SPG received three medals every and Assam Rifles, 15 medals.
Among the many 19 gallantry medal awardees from BSF are SI Rakesh Dobhal, who attained martyrdom through the gallant act, head constable Naseeb Singh and constable Rajesh Kannan, all of who neutralised and destroyed enemy posts whereas retaliating a ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Military alongside the J&Okay border.
